Private Golf Lessons
As a full time golf coach I know that the pupils learning is greater when the pupil has individual lessons. My pupils are often pleased at how simple my coaching is to understand and apply. This is feed back from my own pupils and sometimes this puzzles me because I am often giving advice or changes that are complicated and requires a clear understanding of the golf swing and the person listening often remarks how simple the guidance and tuition is.
Below is a list of goals I try to apply to each pupil. These are generalisations and it depends on many factors – commitment, talent, past experience and expectations. However there is a trend.
Male Golfer (a.k.a The Gorilla) – Most male golfers can instinctively hit a golf ball even without coaching but the lack of technique means they can not keep it in the county let alone the golf course. First Goal – SWING THE CLUB.
Female Golfer – Often comes to the lesson very confused possibly because of well meaning advice that isn’t relevant to them as golfers. This has produced a loss of confidence. First Goal – THE GOLF BALL WILL FLIGHT IF THERE ARE CONVENTIONAL AND SIMPLE MOVES IN THE GOLF SWING.
Beginner Golfer – Build a set up and introduce levers into the golf swing. First Goal – FLIGHT THE GOLF BALL 60 YARDS IN THE FIRST LESSON.
I do not stick to one method I choose from many and to augment the pupils learning I use a coaching software system called GASP this a visual tool that helps you the pupil understand and therefore learn quicker and improve faster because you receive the verbal and more importantly the visual. The software also compares the pupil and the worlds top professionals this can be used as a guide to better golf. To help the learning the software can be purchased and you can view your swings at your leisure.
Seeing is believing and that’s why I invested in the technology. The software also gives the pupil the chance to see some the best swings in the game frame by frame which can be used as a guide. This does create quicker learning and faster results.
Zelocity Pureflight
For many years some of my pupils have often asked about how far they hit the golf ball. They wanted to know the distance for each club.
The Zelocity Pureflight measures club head speed, ball speed, distance and the power transfer ratio.
Wow that sounds great but what does that mean.
The USPGA tour average driver head swing speed is about 106 mph and this produces a carry of about 245 yards. I have some lessons that swing the golf club faster yet they don’t hit it as far as 245 yards.
Why?
The Power Transfer Ratio is about the sweet spot and the ratio of club head speed and ball speed. For example if you were to swing the driver at a 100mph and you hit the ball out of the toe of the club it would create about 217 yards of carry. If then hit the ball again with the same speed and hit the ball out of the sweet spot the ball would carry 232 yards and more.
When using the Pureflight I often find the pupil feels they are swinging smoother yet hitting the ball further!!!
The Pureflight can also produce a Bag tag of the average distance for each club and produce a consistency ranking. It is a very useful tool for the pupil and coach.
